First, we will investigate, through the characteristic of reciprocal violence, why it is unending and futile. ![]() This essay will attempt to answer this question by analyzing whether Athena’s court in the Eumenides is a radical breakaway or a mere continuation of the reciprocal violence seen in Agamemnon and the Libation Bearers. The Oresteia is animated by a lineage of reciprocal violence and the question of what could put an end to said violence. With that said, I’ve decided to share these unedited notes on the off chance they are helpful to other readers.
